About Landscape Lighting

Kichler Landscape Lighting

Landscape Lighting can have a big impact on your home and how people perceive it. Whether your going for the ideal curb appeal or simply home security, here are a few Landscape Lighting Tips to help you along the way.

  • Step and Deck lights can create a soft ambient light around your deck without harsh, glaring wall or spot lights. Deck lighting comes in may shapes and sizes. Many deck lights mount directly to the beams of your deck. Some decorative deck lights can add a bit of humor in the form of reptiles climbing down a deck beam. Step lighting allows people to easily spot darkened stairs in the night.
  • Path lights are ideal for front and back yard pathways. Alternating the lights on different sides of the path is a nice alternative to the standard uniform path lighting set-up. Path lights should be spaced 5-8 feet apart depending on the light output.
  • Underwater lights can create a beautiful outdoor retreat. Lighting a pond or water feature allows you to enjoy it day or night.
  • Spot lights are ideal when trying to highlight a specific area of your yard. Spot lights can be angled and used with shrouds to direct the light exactly where desired. Placing 2 spot lights under a tree, crossing the beams near the first boughs will give the leaves a glowing effect.
  • Using tree mounted flood lights and angling them downward will create a soft "Moon Light" effect. facing the lights downward also help eliminate light pollution in your neighborhood. Light pollution is a growing concern for the health and wellbeing of nocturnal animals. More neighborhoods are adopting Dark Sky ordinents to eliminate light pollution.
  • Landscape Lighting Low Voltage fixtures have become the norm in landscape lighting. Low voltage landscape lighting is safer for use outdoors because it reduces the risks of electrocution when installing a system or repairing one.
  • Find Landscape Lighting Transformers with a photocell or timer to effectively utilize your system. Many transformers have these features built in, but timers and photocells are available separately as well. They are easy to use and save you time and money when managing your landscape system. Photocells are ideal because they will automatically turn on at dusk and off at dawn. Timers can be set to turn on and off at specified times during the night.
