Lighting Guide: Outdoor Ambiance
Outdoors: Ambiance for the Exterior
Outdoor lighting enhances the overall beauty of your home. As the days become shorter and darker earlier, outdoor lighting can make your home more safe and secure this time of year.
A well-lighted front entrance enables you to welcome guests and identify visitors more easily. Wall lanterns around the door will give your home a warm, welcoming look, while assuring the safety of your guests and family.
You can use a single wall lantern on other entrances to the house mounted on the keyhole side of the door. For added illumination and security, you can install post lights near drive-ways and walkways.
ELK and Landmark Lighting are able to solve all your outdoor lighting needs with various styles, finishes and fixture sizes.

Energy Saving Outdoor Lighting Tips
- Lights powered by small Photovoltaic (PV) modules that convert sunlight directly into electricity. Consider PV-powered lights for areas that are not near an existing power supply line.
- Outdoor lights with a photocell unit and motion sensor will turn on only at night or when someone is present.
- Exterior lighting is one of the best places to use CFLs because of their long life. If you live in a cold climate buy a lamp with a cold weather ballast since standard CFLs may not work well below 40*F.
- Consider high-intensity discharge (also called HID) or low pressure sodium lights.
