Robert Abbey named this collection Oshinko because it sounded like a beautiful, simple Japanese plant or object that embodied the sensibility we were striving for: powder coated steel frames, hand made shades of French knot georgette fabric, which encases two T bulbs. The essence of a Zen lifestyle captured in soft light was our goal. We think we’ve achieved everything, except perhaps we didn’t do our homework so well on the actual name. As it turns out, Oshinko is Japanese for pickle. Whoops! That’s right, pickle. Well, we still like the name, and although we now know the real meaning of Oshinko, it doesn’t dim our sense of humor or our love for this great series.
